Rachel Maddow on Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell

I know, I know.  The same day I announce “Breakfast in the Loggia” is going to only address ADHD and law school, I decide to post this.  But this is worth it.

Rachel Maddow has seized on the Military Readiness Enhancement Act, which aims to repeal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” and replace it with an anti-discrimination policy.  This week (so far), she’s done two really good segments on the topic.  Here they are:  Continue reading

Law School and ADHD

photo-15

I was diagnosed with ADHD way back in high school, circa 1997.  The result was that my life made a dramatic change for the better: all it took was a little Adderall, an organizational coach, and a neurologist at one of the world’s most respected hospitals.  (Tangible example: before my diagnosis and treatment, I struggled mightily to maintain low C’s in a regular math class.  Yet within weeks of beginning treatment, I started pulling A’s with hardly any effort.)

Many people with ADHD make it through high school alright, only to flunk out of college.  At 18, I headed to one of the nation’s most competitive liberal arts institutions, and I was as nervous as I was motivated to succeed.  Continue reading

Paradigm Shift: An Announcement

I am still trying to find my groove on this blog, and thank those of you who are sticking with it.  The two most interesting things I have to offer the world, I believe, are (1) the experience of being a law student with ADHD, and (2) the experience of being a lesbian in a city where there are hardly any lesbians.  Everytime I try to blog about point (2), I can’t do it because I feel weird that it necessarily requires talking about people without their knowledge or consent.  So, I have decided to focus primarily on point (1), the ADHD law student angle.

Today was a wonderful day.  Why?  Because I took custody of a desk and a chair.  Heretofore, a bed has been my only true piece of furniture.  But this afternoon, that all changed.  Continue reading

Druids

(* photo taken by me, tonight, on Napoleon at St. Charles.)

Tonight was my first Mardi Gras parade — ever.  (Besides the one that rolled by while I was shopping at Target the other day.)  After a round of potatoes with K. at Parasol’s, A. and I hit the Druids parade.  We stationed ourselves at St. Charles and Napoleon.  A. acquired 21 strings of beads before we left to have dinner with our 2nd cousin, A.B., at Crepe Nanou.

The parade was pretty family friendly, though A. noted that by batting her eyes she managed to score beads over the children next to her at a rate of approximately 2:1.  We are very much looking forward to the Muses parade tomorrow, and plan to attend a promising party beforehand.

Cabin Fever

I’ve been laying in bed pretty much continuously since Monday night.  It’s starting to take its toll.  I’m going stir crazy.  I’m finally feeling better, but I’m still too sick to do much.  I’m still nodding off at random intervals.  Basically, this sucks.

The included YouTube video says it all.
